Root Canal Therapy
If your tooth is suffering from a large crack, cavity, severe pain, or an abscess, Dr. John B. Chrispens and Dr. John K. Evans might recommend gentle root canal therapy to help save it, instead of having to extract it.
Dr. Evans has more than 20 years of experience in endodontics and thoroughly enjoys performing root canals for our patients. We’re firm believers in the benefit of root canals… after all, Dr. Chrispens has 10 of his own! Our in-house endodontic treatments start as low as $795.
If the idea of a root canal makes you feel nervous, don’t let it! Your comfort is always our priority at John B. Chrispens DDS and Associates and we offer sedation options to help you relax during root canal therapy. Some people even fall asleep during their root canal!
What Is Endodontic Therapy?
Root canals are one of the most common dental procedures, reportedly performed well over 14 million times each year in the United States. This treatment is designed to help save your natural teeth and keep you from needing dental implants or bridges.
During root canal therapy, Dr. Evans removes the living tissue inside your tooth, including the nerves, and excises any bacteria or decay. After this step is completed, Dr. Evans cleans out the chamber, treats it with a medicated material, and then fills it.
This process is designed to restore the previously damaged tooth to its full function, and usually lasts a lifetime. Once your root canal therapy is completed, Dr. Evans will place a temporary crown to protect your tooth until your permanent dental crown is placed at your second visit to our Newport Beach office.
Do I Need A Root Canal?
Drs. Chrispens and Evans may recommend root canal therapy if you’re experiencing:
- Swelling and tenderness of your gums
- Severe tooth pain or sensitivity
- An abscess on your gums
- Sharp pain when biting down or chewing
These signs can indicate that decay has reached the pulp of your tooth, resulting in infection or an abscess inside the tooth or at the root.
